Fic of the Day:Beetlejuice

Ahh. Pick-axing. Good exercise and therapeutic too. And if I keep at it, I might not have to mountain goat so much on my way to the truck. (The packed snowdrift I've been walking over for the last six, seven months has developed an incline that is coming dangerously close to sliding me right under the truck.) I don’t have a metal shovel, you see, just a plastic one, which is a shame, because I can do some serious damage with a good metal shovel. The bright side is that I’m getting the hang of the pick-axe, too.

It only took me a few swings to figure out that power is not the issue. Swing it as hard as you want and just get it stuck. Angle is much more important. A tap here, a tap there. Hit the encrusted snow bank just right and big chunks of it shatter off. Kinda like Dim Mak for packed snow.

I was trying to be careful since I was pick-axing in such close proximity to a) the truck, and b) my own legs. I’ve seen enough episodes of America’s Funniest Videos to know that that’s $100 waiting to happen.

Things seem calm now... It's like the eye of a hurricane. I'm waiting for the second part of the storm.

Fic of the Day: Beetlejuice

The earache float in my parade of symptoms is passing the judge's stand. Or something. I left the Star Trek party early because my ear hurt so bad. It is interesting to note how many people I know own official Starfleet uniforms.

There was also a truly disturbing centerpiece made from a cow's tongue. Less said about that, the better.

Sick days call for hot tea and cartoons.

Fic of the Day: Beetlejuice again.

I called in sick today. I woke up 5ish with a stomachache and it went away after a bit, but as soon as I was upright, I went into the dry heaves. Bleah. The good news is that I can maybe get some research for my presentation in today. I'm still queasy, but I'm hoping if I just sit still and don't eat for a bit, I can wait it out.

In unrelated topics, The Backyardigans are really cute. It doesn't come on until after I leave for work, so I usually don't get to see it.

General Skarr is my hero.

Augh. I am such a slacker. I've had all month to work on my presentation and I have invented one thing after another to due instead. I'm down to two weeks left and I have barely started. Somebody needs to get over here and smack me across the back of the head and keep doing it until I start writing something that isn't Beetlejuice fanfiction. Or Total Drama Island fanart. Or anime characters in Halloween outfits. Or unicorns with goose markings. Or LJ entries about how I'm not getting anything done! Augh!

Fic of the Day: Beetlejuice

I'm hoping the worst of my cold is over. I'm going around like a hamster with my cheeks full of Cold-Eeze. I also seem to be missing a cat. I haven't seen him since the day before yesterday which is weird, because he's a house cat. Maybe he's just in some meditative trance somewhere out of sight. Worst case scenario? He got out without anybody noticing and got eaten by a giant owl or fox. Or he's out there scared and lost and hungry.

Then again, he's done this before. He may be in the back of a closet listening to me look for a flashlight so I can check under the house, smiling in his kitty way. More as it develops!

Ficlet for the day: Beetlejuice

Also, I saw my first trailer for The Watchmen. Looks pretty sweet! Of course, the last time I read the book was a year ago and I'm still not sure I liked it. I must have since I'm so psyched about the movie. I also want to see the new Terminator one that's coming out. It's a great time to be geeky.

so ugly it made a mime scream

Phew!

I AM enrolled now, thank goodness. It's not in paper yet, just email, but it's something.

Also, we had both the K3 and K4 spring programs today. The K4 one went off without a hitch except for a quick potty break in the second song. The K3 one wasn't quite so smooth... we had a slap fight and one child just stood there and bawled while his classmates sang around him. One girl cried afterwards because none of her family came to watch. That was sad.

In other news, I did a Beetlejuice fic. I was thinking of writing more, but business first, and that means entering report card scores into the computer. Sigh.

Playing dead in the head

Did a Beetlejuice ficlet for [info]31_days. I'm fighting the worst writer's block ever! Maybe it's because of all the Christmas cards I've been making.

The good news is I sold almost all of them. A few of the dancing foxes made it through unclaimed. I'll find homes for 'em. Now that the craft fair season is almost over, maybe I can turn my attention to other things. 'Possums for instance!

Last day in the world before facing the long winter in Barrow. I had thought that day was last month.
Being out in the early stages of autumn is nice. I’ve been able to scribble out some fics for [info]31_days ( Magic Users and Beetlejuice) and I’m giving some thought to joining the latest fanart prompt over at [info]fanart100. I have to think of a fandom I want to do 100 pics for, though.

I should probably also keep in mind how easy it is to slip away from those in Barrow. Especially now that my work/stress level had gone way up. Then again, maybe having a project will help.

Also, I’m getting a sore throat, which pleases me not at all…

Keeping Siesta Hours

Wow.

It's almost dark and it's still over 80 degrees. I've been trying to get all the work around here done either early in the morning or late at night. The rest of the day I try to keep still and near the fan.

Also, more fics up at [info]31_days Here, here, and here.

And my Mom has volunteered me to teach (TEACH!!!)at the Elementary school. God help me.
